Speciality, Generality, and Practicality of the Church Life,
Published in Paperback by Living Stream Ministry (01 April, 1984)
Author: Witness Lee
Average review score:

An Enlivening Exposition on the New Testament Church Life
In just seventy pages Witness Lee outlines the Biblical pattern for a sound, healthy and vital church life. He shows this to be the outcome of a "check and balance" between three major ideas that must exist in each believer. These are the speciality, the generality and the practicality of the Church life.

The speciality of the Church life is an uncompromising absoluteness concerning the common faith or those beliefs that all genuine Christians hold to be true. (i.e. the deity of Christ, the innerancy of the Bible, the death and resurrection of Christ, etc.). This is followed by the generality of the Church life, which calls for a general and open-minded attitude toward the beliefs and practices of other genuine Christian who also adhere to the common faith but whose beliefs and practices may differ from one's own. The justification for the allowance of such divergent views in these issues stems from the necessity of maintaining the oneness of the Body of Christ. Paul's attitude with respect to the "esteeming of one day above another" in the book of Romans is an example that epitomizes this principle of generality. Such a seemingly open-ended and unbridled allowance for variance in Christian practice must however be mitigated by the practicality of the Church life which calls for only those practices that are espoused by the Bible, history and personal experience as the most conducive for achieving the greatest spiritual growth in the life of the believer and the Church.

For anyone seeking clarity on what kind of view a believer ought to have with respect to the Church at large and more specifically what the Bible delineates as a proper local church, this is an excellent book. I was helped greatly in these two matters.

A Great handguide for Christian unity in the Church
This book lays a good foundation for the Christian reader - in the three areas of Generality, Speciality and Practicality of Christian unity. In Generality we learn the five basic points of the Christian faith. In Speciality we learn how to contend for the Christian faith in a proper way according to the Scriptures against heresy and degradation in the Church universal, and lastly in Practicality a way for practical church living is presented. This book is a must for Christians who want to find the keys to Christian unity. The truths presented are simple yet profound.

SQL Server 7 24seven
Published in Paperback by Sybex (August, 1999)
Authors: Rick Sawtell, Michael Lee, Matt Bridges, and Victor Isakov
Average review score:

A letter of recommendation for purchase
This book is perfectly targeted for the SE group, which really surprised me because I'm not a big fan of Sybex Books. It can be 'read' instead of 'studied' (for example, on a plane or in a hotel room), and it is totally packed with information targeted directly at SEs (just look at the table of contents, and you'll see what I mean). I sat and read the first chapter and skimmed several others, and I found that each page had three or four great points that we all really need to know. It is clear to me that the authors must come from a consulting background.

The knowledge in this book will help us all to: (a) understand SQL Server technology, (b) appear knowledgeable enough to instill confidence and promote a buying vision, (c) relate to and build rapport with SQL administrators, and (d) actually solve security-, configuration-, and performance-related issues. I'd like to see us buy a copy of this book for each SE.

Excellent book for entry to mid-level MS-SQL7 administrators
This is an excellent book. It clearly explains 'small' things like Error 1205, fill factor, replication server upgrading order, fixing of SPs that modify the system tables after upgrading, the importance of IPC$ as regarding to the client connections, and so on. Last night I was sitting in Barnes & Nobles, juggling all the MS-SQL7 administration books I could find. It is the cheapest, smallest of all (well, '... for Dummies' doesn't really count for my purpose), yet it is the only one that answers all my test questions. In my opinion, the only other way to get a good feeling on SQL7 is to read through all of the Books Online. How you can manage the thousands of pages is one problem though. I wouldn't even I do think I could. I am in the process of upgrading my MCSE to MCSE+I, and I am sure this book is all I need for now. However, here's an advise to my fellow SQL newcomers: I don't think it will really hurt if, in addition, you actually CAN install, upgrade, configure, backup, restore a few SQL7 servers ... AND know NT well. All in all, this is an excellent book for real-life administration and MS certification test.

well worth the money
I have the orignals of this story and would tell any fan outthere that this book is well worth the price. If you likeSpider-man, and/or Venom this is an excellent book.

The Creation of Marvel's NO-GOOD Villian
The story starts with Cletus Cassidy, serving 11 consecutive life sentences, in the same cell as Eddie Brock, who continues to train himself for the destruction of Spiderman. When Eddie's "other", the alien symbiote bent on Spidey's death, breaks him outta jail, it leaves behind a spawn of itself, the same yet different. Cassidy runs into it while watching Venom flee. They bond and CARNAGE is born. Spiderman investigates the random murders of CARNAGE after a fellow lab assistant at ESU is killed there. After a tussle, Spidey decides the only way to stop one madman with no sense of right is to bring in another with a twisted sense of justice. Venom and Spiderman team up to end Carnage's carnaval of blood.

Standard Operating Procedures and Guidelines
Published in Paperback by Fire Engineering Bk Dept (December, 1998)
Author: John Lee Cook
Average review score:

Good Fire Station SOP Source
I was tasked with rewriting our SOP's and Station Procedures when our department changed from all-vounteer to combination. This book is full of good ideas. It has shown numerous places where our SOP's were lacking, and given me ideas where we just needed to flesh them out.

Not a good title
Please note that I ordered this book thinking it was about general SOP writing. It is about procedures in Fire Stations only. If that is what you want... it is probably good.

Stickmen
Published in Hardcover by Cemetery Dance Pubns (February, 2000)
Author: Edward Lee
Average review score:

When the Truth Really is Out There
In the world of horror, Edward Lee stands out as something of a sledgehammer to the reading skull, most of the time hitting you with depictions that have the ability to haunt your reading mind. Still, this isn't always the case and sometimes he crafts works that can grab his audience in ways you really don't expect. Honestly, this is what I like about him because, from book to book, I am really unsure of what will be presented before this audience of one, and if the ensuing dreams my subconscious will spit out will be profoundly interesting or horrifically inclined. Having delved into some of his more gruesome works (The Bighead) and some of his more lightweight contributions (Dead Cats Bouncing), I found myself a bit torn on what I wanted from his as a writer and still wanted to press forward, and there was something about The Stickmen that possessed me to buy it. Now, after looking through it and being introduced to the characters within, I'm actually glad I took the time to ingest it. I say this because there is something about the writing style that Lee possesses and the simplicity it sometimes possesses and yet the ideas its able to produce, his use of comparisons that can sometimes make a reader laugh and sometimes sigh in disbelief, and because The Stickmen was, in my opinion, a great read.

So, what does a paranoid conspiracy theorist that has been kicked out of almost every "notably established" chronicle to the oddities within the natural world, a kid that seems to have dreams about being abducted by aliens, the theft of a small atomic device that could destroy a city block, and the revelation that aliens that can simply be termed "Stickmen" in such a short review exist have in common? Well, they are the glue that hold this story, which is a fast-paced read through an armada of strange happenstance that interconnect in many a weird way, together. The book keeps the reader reading on, wondering exactly how things are going to fit together and what outcome the book is working toward. Personally, this is what I liked about the book because I knew and yet didn't know, and was kept guessing throughout much of the story that, despite its quickened pace, kept me reading onward until the ending.

For those who haven't read Edward Lee, I would state that this isn't what I have atypically found him producing. There were a few lightweight murders that coated the pages in red, but most of the book is about the mysterious things going on and the subsequent chase leading to the end of the extraterrestrial rainbow. Still, I wouldn't expect all of his books to approach life this way and would recommend looking into each of them individually for content before thinking that he is a lightweight in the gore department. For those who have read Lee and like his style, I thought that the little barbs of humor and the approach were here, and that this was a worthy read in the realms that have, in the past, disappointed me. You simply have to be in the mood for the subject matter because, unlike many of his more terrestrial horrors, this ranges in the Science Fiction category to me.

An amusing read from the author of Bighead
After reading "BigHead" from Ed Lee I was surpized how this one made me laugh and care at the same time. The lead reporter a nice kind of loser. Read the last chapter with the two female leads and you know what I mean. From the small kid to the stickmen themselves, a fast, funny, and action read. Might be hard to find since it is a limited edidtion. But I tend to find these editins better than the main stream reading anyhow. As a fan of Richard laymon and Jack Ketchum Ed Lee can gorss you out, but as this book shows it also (the author) has style that has long been over looked.

Super Smoothies!: Taste the Nectar of Life
Published in Paperback by Woodbridge Pr Pub (June, 1996)
Authors: Candia Lea Cole and Candia Lee Cole
Average review score:

Her recipes are original!
I've had the pleasure of tasting almost every recipe in this book, and,-without a doubt, they are the most original I've sampled. There are other smoothie books out there, but they are mostly the yogurt, juice, banana and ice cube variety. This author turns smoothie making into an art. She relies upon seasonal produce to make both fruit and vegetable smoothies. You'd never know they didn't have dairy, because they are so creamy and luscious tasting. Also, her smoothies may be served chilled or warmed for seasonal enjoyment. I've served the smoothie recipes to my neighbors (kids as young as two years old), as well as friends (of all ages) who stop by the house. Another highlight of this book is the author's engaging message about health and healing. She shares her personal passion for healing our bodies and the earth. Makes a great gift! Don't confuse her book with another book with same title. Candia Cole's book is the 'original' book,- "Super Smoothies": Taste The Nectar Of Life!

SPECIAL FRUIT DRINKS FOR EVERYONE...JUST PLAIN GOOD!
I am NOT a health freak,by any stretch of the imagination, however,my lady friend and I came across this book and have been trying its different "SMOOTHIES", as they are called. Great summer drinks that we will enjoy all YEAR AROUND! One of our favorites is the PINAPPLE AVOCADO PARADISE drink, easy to make...This book should be kept next to your blender! Great treats for your company/neighborhood BBQ's...TRY IT!
